Hello
I am Adrita Biswas, an eco-printing textile artist and researcher based in Kolkata, India. My journey in the world of textiles has been deeply influenced by my passion for sustainable practices and the beauty of nature. .
My Story
Like most of the Bengali folks, my love and admiration for textile is inherited. The smell of old sarees from my grandma's wardrobe feels like she is still here with me. That and borrowing the the gardening gene from my parents, I started a life-altering journey in eco-printing, a technique that allows me to create unique patterns on fabric using natural materials few years back. Nature gives me more everyday than I can ever repay in a few lifetimes.
As a design tutor, I strive to share my knowledge and inspire others to embrace eco-friendly practices in fashion. My work aims to blend creativity with responsibility, encouraging a mindful approach to textile art. I believe that art can be a powerful medium for change, and I am dedicated to exploring how traditional techniques can be adapted to meet contemporary sustainability challenges.
Also, I am a hopeless researcher (meaning: I do not know if I am ever going to complete my thesis. Its been 5 years. Still I am learning something new everyday and updating the script everyday). Through my research, I hope to contribute to a greater understanding of how textiles can harmonise with nature, promoting practices that respect our environment and celebrate our cultural heritage
I dream of a kinder world, full of smiles, good food and tall trees.
